A Brief Overview of the Leavey School of Business
As your student joins the Leavey School of Business, they will experience exceptional faculty, dedicated staff, committed alumni and current students who are excited to meet their new colleagues- your student! Leavey provides an excellent business curriculum combined with an outstanding liberal arts core to provide a foundation of learning and exploration. We believe that this combination creates business professionals who think, create and support a just and humane world. To this end, your student will have faculty who know their names, an average class size of about 28 students, over 20 business clubs and organizations to join, professional development programs to support internship preparation, leadership programs to challenge them and an environment that will support and guide them each step of the way. We hope you are as excited as we are to have your student begin their college journey with the Leavey School of Business community! See you at Orientation!
What Does a Leavey Student’s First Year Look Like?
Your student’s schedule will include a combination of University and Business Core classes, providing a balanced set of requirements.
With a wide range of business majors, we want to ensure all students have a strong foundation necessary for success in later courses at the Leavey School of Business. All students are required to take BUSN 70: Contemporary Business Issues, which covers key topics across Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, Management, Economics, and Business Analytics.

How Can YOU Help?
During orientation, your student will enroll in fall classes. To prepare, please ensure they:
- Take the Calculus Readiness Exam (CRE).
They can access the CRE through the MySCU Portal and click on the ALEKS tile. All business students are required to take calculus. To determine if they need to take the exam, please see guidance from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Please ensure they complete the CRE before their orientation session to help determine the appropriate math course placement. - Foreign Language Placement Process:
All business students are required to meet second-level language proficiency. Learn more about the proficiency requirement, the nine languages available at SCU, and the language placement process. Please ensure they complete language placement at least 2 weeks before their orientation session. - Does your student have AP, IB, or University of Cambridge International Exam scores?
They can learn where to submit their scores. - Does your student have college transfer credit?
They can submit official college transcripts to appstatus@scu.edu.
Please have your student review the Bronco Prep Guides sent to their SCU email for more information on the above items.
Welcome to the Bronco Community!
We are excited to welcome your student and you to orientation in the upcoming weeks! If you have any questions, please email ugbprograms@scu.edu.
