DeCosse Guest Panelist on Civility Roundtable

March 7 event addressed current free speech issues

Director of Campus Ethics David DeCosse participated as a guest panelist at the Mountain View Civility Roundtable on March 7, along with panelists Joseph Scherer, CEO, Green Fire Energy, Angela Alvarado, Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, Andrea Gemmett, editor, Mountain View Voice, and Joe Simitian, Santa Clara County supervisor. The event, organized by the Human Rights Commission of the City of Mountain View, covered a variety of free speech and civil discourse topics, including: The First Amendment, cultural diversity in the ways in which we view free speech, free speech and American values, the role of free speech on college campuses, and understanding opposing viewpoints on the topic. The two-hour event, held at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts for an audience of nearly 100 community members, included opportunities for small group discussion and interactive participation.
