An SCU Inauguration Week special event, "Separating Children and Families of Refugees," will be held Monday October 7, 2019, noon-1:30 p.m., at the De Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University. The event is part of a week long series of events being held to commemorate the inauguration of Kevin O'Brien, S.J. Ethics Center Director of Internet Ethics Irina Raicu moderates the session, which includes panelists:

  • Julissa Arce, Author and Immigration Activist (shown in photo)
  • Mimi Nguyen, Attorney, Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County
  • Deep Gulasekaram, Professor, Santa Clara Law School

Julissa Arce is bestselling author of My (Underground) American Dream, currently being developed as a television series with producer and actor America FerreraMimi Nguyen is an immigration attorney who has been active representing clients in immigration matters, including those who have been detained and are at risk for deportation. Deep Gulasekaram teaches Constitutional Law and Immigration Law at SCU. His research focuses on the political and legal dynamics of state and local immigration regulations, and their effect on federal policies.

The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.
