What Sunol’s new Flag Limitation Could Mean for the Bay Area

The Sunol school board recently restricted flag displays at their sole school to only the American and Californian flags following complaints received about the display of the pride flag on school property.

Don Heider, executive director, from Santa Clara University's Markkula Center for Applied Ethics commented, "I think there are a number of interesting ethical decisions like does flying the pride flag harm anybody? What decision did the school board make that would support the virtue of tolerance and acceptance? What decision creates the best conditions for students to learn? Student learning includes personal and psychological safety of those children in that school district, so there are a number of complex issues that need to be considered.”
