Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB: I am currently a Marketing major with a French minor. I am interested in the analytical side of Marketing, so I’m hoping to add a Business Analytics minor. I also love getting involved in leadership and club opportunities that SCU has to offer such as Women in Business.
What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies: Apart from being a Leavey ambassador, I am involved in the Women in Business club at SCU. As a member, I attend multiple events a quarter such as informational panels from women in business and career fairs. I am also a part of an off-campus sorority, where I have held leadership positions in the past. I love seeking any opportunities in my LSB classes and clubs to take leadership roles! In my free time, I love to go on runs, read a good book, and cook for myself or my friends.
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at LSB: In my first quarter of Sophomore year, I took MGMT 50, a professional development skills course taught by the faculty of the career center. In this class, I learned how to take advantage of SCU’s resources such as VMOCK resume builder and the alumni network. I consider that professor to be one of my mentors to this day, and the knowledge I took from the course has come in handy in every job application and interview process I’ve had since. I have opportunities like these to thank for my recent success in securing an internship for this upcoming summer.
Favorite LSB Class and Why? One of my favorite classes I’ve taken at LSB is ACTG 12, Managerial Accounting, with Professor Ritter. This may not be a very popular opinion because of the very challenging nature of the class, and it is not necessarily related to my major, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the way that it has made me think critically, and has proven to me that I can succeed in challenging courses. Professor Ritter is the best teacher I’ve taken at LSB so far, her kindness and clear efforts to make the class interesting and fun have made this class one of my most memorable.
What made you choose to attend LSB? I went to a public high school with a graduating class of over 550 students, which is a very different learning environment than we have here at SCU. When I was initially applying to colleges, I thought that I wanted to go to a big school similar to what I was used to at my high school. It was not until I visited Santa Clara that I started to open my eyes to how many opportunities a school like this could offer me. Learning about the intimate class sizes, as well as involvement and career opportunities, and of course the beautiful campus, are what really enticed me to choose LSB, and I could not be happier with my decision.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college? One thing I learned during the college application process is that people are very opinionated about where you end up. I wish I hadn’t spent so much time worrying about where others expected me to go, and just focused on what I knew was best for me. As the youngest child, I’ve always followed in my siblings footsteps, so being the first one to go out of state was a hard choice for me. Once I stopped putting so much pressure on myself to please others' expectations, and took time to reflect on where I could thrive, the decision to come to SCU was an easy one!
