Many of you know Jack Caffey for his invaluable advice, business acumen, and humorous anecdotes, but perhaps few of you are aware of his expansive knowledge regarding cities and countries around the world.

After graduating with his undergraduate degree from Santa Clara University and completing his master’s degree in electrical engineering at UCLA, Jack worked for Hewlett-Packard (HP) here in the Bay Area.  He started in sales and was responsible for the Northern California, Nevada, and Hawaii regions. After working in sales for approximately 15 years, he moved into the consulting business which required travel.  In this position, Jack was responsible for consulting and education in the United States and in Latin America. He visited a majority of the countries in Latin America but most frequently worked in Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, and Argentina managing various consulting training centers.  Following his position in consulting and education, Jack transitioned to consulting for software projects. In addition to working in the U.S. and in Latin America, he frequently traveled to Canada. For the last 10 years of his career, Jack worked on building a new sector of HP: business process outsourcing, a system that provides cloud-based services to clients.  Within three years, Jack and his team built a $5 billion business from the ground up. While working on business process outsourcing, Jack traveled to locations as far and wide as Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, India, China, Poland, and Spain.

After all the friends he has made, adventures he has experienced, and cultures he has explored, Jack says his favorite place to visit is India.  His most memorable experience in India was when he and his wife, Maria, traveled around the country and he was able to be the tour guide. Together, they flew to Delhi and, from there, took a road trip to visit the Taj Mahal and Rajasthan, before returning to Delhi.

Since Jack has experienced so many different places, we asked him to share an interesting fact.  According to Jack, a fun fact that many people don’t know is that the Tsukiji Fish Market, a private fish market in Tokyo, establishes the price of sushi-grade tuna for the entire world through auctions. Jack was able to witness tuna being sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. What a sight to see!
