If you are currently having a medical or psychiatric emergency or are unable to stay safe, please call 988, 911, or Campus Safety at (408) 554-4444, or go to the nearest ER for immediate help. Otherwise, please see below for information on Crisis Services at CAPS.

Need to speak with a therapist today?

Students in crisis—such as experiencing thoughts of suicide, having hallucinations, being the victim of a sexual assault, or facing a significant level of psychological distress that requires more immediate or same-day support—may request a crisis appointment at CAPS.

  • Crisis appointments are available Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Students in crisis are seen the same day, typically within the hour.
  • Call (408) 554-4501 or stop by the Cowell Center to schedule.

During a crisis appointment, which lasts about 30 minutes, a CAPS therapist will assess the circumstances and collaboratively create a plan for the student to get help.

Concerned about a student in distress?

Consult with CAPS: If you are concerned about a student who may be in crisis, you can consult with CAPS at any time or direct the student to the Cowell Center. Whether you are faculty, staff, or a fellow student, please consider calling us to explain the situation so that we can assist the student as best as we can. Contact us Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at (408) 554-4501.

Submit a Student of Concern Report: You may also fill out a Student of Concern Report at any time outlining your concerns about the student; in this case, the Office of Student Life will follow up with them.
