  • Transforming Power Systems for a Sustainable Future

    Dr. Maryam Khanbaghi, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and director of the Power Systems and Sustainable Energy Program, has been awarded the highly prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award for her effort to combat climate challenges by revolutionizing power systems. This accolade underscores her emerging leadership in the power systems field and acknowledges her innovative contributions, marking a vital step toward a greener and more sustainable future. The project introduces a comprehensive framework to model a multi-layer power system. This framework considers intermittent renewable energy sources and establishes a robust scheduling scheme to empower system operators to deliver power efficiently.

  • Dr. Kenneth Haughton

    For 2023, a special award was given out. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual who has attained distinction through many years of service and generosity to the School of Engineering and to the engineering profession.

  • 2022-2023 Engineering Faculty Awards Announced

    The School of Engineering is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2022-23 faculty awards: Amr Elkady, Adjunct Lecturer of the Year Award; Ralph Morganstern, Markle Award; Kurt Schab and Xiang Li, Researcher of the Year Award; Bill Lu, Teaching Excellence Award; Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Special Dean's Recognition Award.

    The School of Engineering is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2021-22 faculty awards: Laura Doyle, Award for Teaching Excellence; Emre Araci, Researcher of the Year Award; Nicholas Pera, Adjunct Lecturer of the Year; and Steve Chiappari, Gerald E. Markle Award for Teaching Excellence in Applied Mathematics and Engineering.

Markle Award for Teaching Excellence in Applied Mathematics and Engineering.

    BS ’86 Electrical Engineering

    In 2019, Renee (Bader) Niemi was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award, in recognition of her long and distinguished career leading a variety of technical startups and corporations and of her service to the university and to the School of Engineering.

    In 2019, Marc van den Berg was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award, in recognition of his support of socially responsible innovation and entrepreneurship and for his service to the university and to the School of Engineering.

  • Hemant Thapar

    BS ’73, MS ’75 Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

    In 2018, Hemant Thapar was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for his his advancement of electrical and computer science and engineering, and service to the School of Engineering.

    BS ’83 Mechanical Engineering

    In 2018, Tina Panontin was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for her contributions to the advancement of the nation’s aerospace program.

  • 2016-2017 Engineering Faculty Awards Announced

    The School of Engineering is proud to announce the 2016-17 School of Engineering Faculty Award recipients: Yi Fang (computer engineering) is Teacher of the Year. We have double the excellence this year as Hisham Said (civil engineering) and Yi Fang (computer engineering) tied for the School of Engineering Researcher of the Year. Shane Rogers ’13 MS (engineering management and leadership) is Adjunct Lecturer of the Year; and Ralph Morganstern receives the Gerald E. Markle Award for Teaching Excellence in Engineering and Applied Mathematics.

    In 2017,Richard DeBlasio was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for his contribution to the field of electrical engineering and the advancement of renewable energy research and adoption.

    In 2017, Bill Holt was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for his impact on the semiconductor chip industry and the advancement of computing.

    In 2016, Fr. Scott Santarosa was selected for the School of Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for the contributions he has made to enriching the lives and furthering the prospects for the poorest of society, and for his leadership within the Society of Jesus.
