Markkula Center for Applied Ethics

Silicon Valley's Ethics Center

Charmaine and Dan Warmenhoven

One of the highlights for the Ethics Center this year was the launch of our new Technology Ethics Program, thanks to a lead gift by Ethics Center Advisory Board member Charmaine Warmenhoven and her husband, Dan. The couple recognized that, as the applied ethics center for Silicon Valley, the Markkula Center is in the prime position to address the ethical questions raised in this rapidly evolving area. Although it was officially launched in February, the Technology Ethics Program has already responded to myriad ethics issues in artificial intelligence regionally and globally by building partnerships, developing online resources, giving public presentations, and providing media commentary. We are grateful to the Warmenhovens for helping the Ethics Center ensure that new technologies, especially those around AI, are being developed thoughtfully and to the benefit of humanity.
