A Future Worth Wanting

SCU Philosophy Professor Shannon Vallor speaks about her new book, Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting.

Emerging technologies, from artificial intelligence to new social media, present many new opportunities but also diverse and difficult ethical challenges for humanity's future.

In her new book, Technology and the Virtues, Professor Vallor articulates a moral framework for addressing these challenges, drawing from Aristotelian, Confucian, and Buddhist perspectives. Special attention is paid to the impact of new technologies on civic discourse and the issues that are unique to Silicon Valley.

Shannon Vallor is the William J. Rewak, S.J. Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Santa CLara University.
