Troubleshooting eduroam

Use the troubleshooting steps below if you are having trouble connecting to eduroam.

Make sure that you are connecting to eduroam using your SCU Username followed by @scu.edu.

LIKE THIS:  bbronco@scu.edu
NOT LIKE THIS: bbronco

The "@scu.edu" portion is required when you login because eduroam is a federated service, used in thousands of locations across the globe. When you authenticate, you need to tell eduroam that your account is part of SCU.

When your computer or device has pending updates, some functions may not work properly. Restart your computer or device, and go through all the updates as prompted.

Once your computer or device has restarted, try connecting again.

Forgetting a network, then re-adding it, can help if you are having trouble connecting to WiFi.

Once you have completed the steps below to remove eduroam on your device, try to connect again using the configuration steps on the “Using eduroam” page -- on that page, scroll down to find and open the Quick Guide for your device.

Android:

  • From the home screen, choose Settings.
  • In the settings menu, choose Wi-Fi.
  • Locate eduroam, then tap and hold it.
  • Choose Forget.

iPad or iPhone:

  • From the home screen, choose Settings.
  • In the settings menu, choose Wi-Fi.
  • Locate eduroam and click the blue symbol next to the name.
  • If the option to forget the network is available, tap Forget this Network and attempt to reconnect to eduroam.

If you do not see the option to forget the network:

  • From the home screen, choose Settings.
  • In the settings menu, choose General.
  • Locate Profile and tap on it.
  • Select the profile for eduroam.
  • Tap on delete profile.

macOS:

  • Click the WiFi symbol at the top of your screen, and select Open Network Preferences.
  • In the lower-right corner, choose Advanced.
  • Under Preferred Networks select eduroam.
  • Click the minus (-) button to forget.
  • Click OK.

Windows 10:

  • Click the Network icon on the lower right corner of your screen.
  • Choose Network settings.
  • Click on Manage Wi-Fi settings.
  • Under Manage known networks, select eduroam.
  • Click Forget.

If you continue to have issues connecting to eduroam after restarting, and after removing/re-adding eduroam, you may need to remove an existing 802.1x profile.

iPad or iPhone:

  • Open Settings, then General.
  • Scroll to the bottom and open Profiles. If you do not see a Profiles section, then you do not have any configuration profiles installed.
  • In the Profiles section, tap SCU eduroam, then tap Remove Profile. You may be prompted to enter your device’s passcode. Tap Delete.

 macOS

  • From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  • Select Profiles. If you do not see a Profiles section, then you do not have any configuration profiles installed.
  • Click on the profile you wish to remove, then click on the “-” (minus sign). Click Remove to remove the profile.

Once you have completed the steps to remove the profile, try to connect again using the configuration steps on the “Using eduroam” page -- scroll down to find and open the Quick Guide for your device.

Some Android devices have trouble connecting to eduroam.

Check the specific Android configuration steps on the “Using eduroam” page -- scroll down to “Quick Guide: eduroam for Android.”

If you changed the password associated with your SCU Username, you may need to update your eduroam profile. Your computer or device may try to use the existing profile, associated with the old password, to connect to SCU’s eduroam service, and this will fail.

Follow the instructions in #3 above to remove and re-add eduroam on your device.

If you used eduroam while attending or working at a previous institution, you may have an eduroam profile already installed on your computer or device. Your computer or device will try to use the existing profile to connect to SCU’s eduroam service, and this will fail.

Follow the instructions in #3 above to remove and re-add eduroam on your device.

If you are still unable to connect to eduroam, please contact the Technology Help Desk.
