Reporting sexual assault

Jenna Recupero, SCU's Title IX investigator, talks about what she can do for students who have been the victims of sexual misconduct.  She defines misconduct to include nonconsensual contact, intercourse, or exploitation, including harassment.  She describes the steps her office takes when they get a report.  Recupero encourages reporting not only of obvious assaults but also of "tricky situations" where a student is uncomfortable with what has occurred. The latter may not result in any further action, but such conversations can help students sort through their experience and allow the Title IX office a window into the camppus climate. In general, Recupero urges students to talk about sexual misconduct issues.  "Change is in your hands," she says.
