Celebrating a Year of Sustainability Triumphs
2025 Sustainability Celebration
Center for Sustainability’s annual spring gathering celebrated a year of incredible progress, highlighting how the campus community is putting its sustainability action plan into practice and paving the way to a more just and sustainable future.
The Center for Sustainability capped a year of incredible progress with our annual spring Sustainability Celebration. The heart of this ceremony is recognizing the many Bronco community changemakers, volunteers, fellows, scholars, and graduates who went above and beyond to make real transformation at SCU, culminating with this year’s Sustainability Champions. But it’s also a chance to look back at how our community answered the call to lead meaningful change and pave the way to a more just and sustainable future.
Under the Forge Garden’s grape-covered pergola, students, faculty, staff and community members reflected on a year of remarkable milestones: Putting Integral Ecology Into Action: One full year into the implementation of SCU’s sustainability strategic action plan – Sustainable SCU: Leading Through Laudato Si’ – our collective vision is coming alive across campus. From research and operations to community engagement and student engagement, we are living into our call to integral ecology with purpose and passion.
Solar-Powered Momentum. With the Bird Solar Project now fully activated at the Leavey Lot, the Schott AEC rooftop, and the North Parking Garage, we’re already seeing tangible benefits—our first cost savings is being reinvested to accelerate more campus energy projects. That brings sunshine on our shoulders and on our reduced electricity bill!
Growing in Community. We joyfully celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Forge Garden, our beloved learning and growing space that continues to cultivate community, environmental literacy, and sustainable food systems right here on campus.
Harnessing Generosity in Action. During SCU’s Day of Giving, sustainability shone brightly, rising to the top of the leaderboard and signaling our community’s strong commitment to climate action and environmental justice.
Styling for Success. This year also marked the opening of Bucky’s Closet to provide free professional and everyday attire to students and beyond. In partnership with the LEAD Scholars Program and the Career Center, we received a RELI grant, as well as the creation of an endowment fund by generous donors, ensuring student access to this resource for years to come. A true investment in equity, opportunity, and a circular economy.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this powerful year of action, reflection, and celebration. We invite all Broncos to join us as together we light the way toward a just and sustainable future.
