Where We Stand: Tracking Progress for Leading Through Laudato Si’

As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sustainability at SCU, we are ushering in new era of our implementation phase defined by unprecedented collaboration. Our 2026 Annual Update tracks progress against goals along with narrative and data highlights of the remarkable strides our campus has made together.

Four years ago, Santa Clara University began creating an action plan to answer Pope Francis’ call for urgent action against environmental degradation, climate change, and social inequality. Today we are excited to share our 2026 Annual Progress Update which tracks progress on specific goals and strategies, along with narrative and data highlights of the remarkable strides our campus has made together.

🚀 Last year, we were laying the groundwork with 4 of 27 identified sub-strategies completed. Today, we have surged to 25 completed initiatives, with another 50 actively in progress or upcoming.

🪙 Our campus-wide dedication earned SCU the prestigious AASHE STARS Gold Rating once again, valid through May 2029.

🌿 As we celebrate 20 years of Sustainability at SCU, our work continues to expand in scope and impact, with high-profile events like the 2026 Sustainability and Environmental Justice Research Symposium which showcased 106 SCU thought leaders representing 60% of academic departments.
