Paid Student Positions
Student Sustainability Coordinator

Opportunity for students to gain professional skills while leading transformational campus programs from behavior campaigns to waste characterizations, from collaborative event planning to data analysis.

Each coordinator has a specific area of responsibility – review the position descriptions for current open roles. (Be sure you are logged in to your SCU account to view). Applicants will be expected to provide three names of references.

Additional details

  • Campus-based student employment with ongoing supervision & mentorship; quarterly feedback & evaluations
  • Possibly eligible to qualify for academic internship credit (ex: Sustainability Minor Active Learning requirement)
  • Coordinators should have a basic proficiency with Google Suite

Duration: Ongoing (at least 1 year with opportunity to continue through senior year)

Sustainability Fellowship

Opportunity for leadership development and self-directed experiences that prepare students for early-career jobs and improve their graduate admission prospects. Each Fellowship concludes with a culminating experience (e.g. paper, presentation, event, etc.) to share results and learnings.

Types of Fellowships

Duration: 1 academic year with supervision and mentorship throughout term

Status: Applications open through May 30, 2023 (letter of recommendation required). Interviews conducted in early June.

Garden Apprentice

Opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in sustainable food systems at The Forge Garden, SCU's 1/2-acre organic educational garden.

Apprentices support Forge Garden programs including food production, the Friday Farm Stand, Nourish Nights, workday volunteer hours, Glean Team, weekend workshops, campus collaborative events, and Center for Sustainability programming. Read the full position description.

Duration: Ongoing Forge Garden-based student employment with ongoing supervision & mentorship; quarterly feedback & evaluations.

Status: Applications for 2023-24 school year have closed.

Garden Intern

Opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in sustainable food systems at The Forge Garden, SCU's 1/2-acre organic educational garden.

Duration: 100-hours during the summer break. Forge Garden-based student employment with ongoing supervision & mentorship.

Volunteer Opportunities
Leading Through Laudato Si' Focus Group Member

Opportunity for SCU community members to receive updates on the Working Groups' progress and share feedback on the general direction of their ideas.

Duration: 30 minute meetings throughout the 2022-2023 academic year, up to 4 times. Anyone is welcome to join a focus group meeting, regardless of whether they have attended a previous session.

Sustainability Liaison

Opportunity for students, faculty, staff to represent their academic & administrative departments, residential learning communities, or student organizations and influence sustainable behaviors through collaboration.

Duration: Academic year, option to renew annually. Approximate time commitment of 1-3 hours per quarter.
