What is your project about? My project aims to improve energy efficiency in low income homes in Santa Clara. Part of Santa Clara's climate action plan addresses improving energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in municipal, residential, and commercial buildings. However, these upgrades often disproportionately benefit those with the means to afford them. Those with the means to install things such as solar panels or weatherization to their houses will reap the benefits of increased energy efficiency and reduced energy bills. This is particularly concerning as Santa Clara residents spend more on electricity than the national average. I hope that through my research, I can make a positive impact on both the environment and local residents' everyday lives, while educating them on the importance of clean energy.
