Air Quality

Air quality due to smoke in the air will cause all our outdoor recreation facilities to close if we are in the red zone at/or above 151 for air quality. We use Air Now as a determination for the air quality. Use this link to go to their website www.airnow.gov. Use the zip code 95050 in the search (95053 for the campus does not work as of Fall 2018). If the website is down, use your cell phone’s weather app if it has an air quality level. If the number is at/or above 151 we need to close the outdoor facilities. Intercollegiate Athletic teams will use their own guidelines for when they will remove student-athletes from play and it may not mirror ours. The Air Quality Index for Ozone defines the range 151 - 200 as everyone may begin to experience health effects; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.

Our hope would be to then get a campus wide email out that we have closed the outdoor facilities. This includes the Pool, Bellomy Field, Degheri Tennis Courts, Beach Volleyball Courts, Outdoor Basketball Court and Outdoor Fitness Area.

Intramural Sports leagues that are outdoor sports scheduled during a time of bad air quality will be notified by Intramural Sports Staff if the games are canceled. The information will be sent to your scu.edu e-mail address through IM Leagues.
